| Dry
Skin Explained |
| Dehydration
or water loss at the Stratum Corneum results in dry skin also
known as Xerosis. Dry skin is a very common problem particularly
during the winter months. A natural oil coating (skin lipids),
produced by the skin's oil glands cover our skin. There are
also natural moisturizing factors such as amino acids, lactate
and urea which help retain water in the Stratum Corneum. As
the skin lipids and the natural moisturizing factors are removed
then the skin becomes dry. If untreated, dry skin can lead to
cracking and eventually painful inflammation. |

the few of you who have never had dry skin, consider yourself
fortunate. Dry skin can be extremely uncomfortable as well as
painful. It can range from slightly itchy skin to red, cracked,
chapped, irritated patches on various parts of the body. When
